My father was a great woodturner, maybe one day I’ll be as good. I really only bought a lathe when I thought I’d need it to make knobs and handles for the box work and restorations that was my main focus. Like my father before me, I became hooked.
There is something quite relaxing about woodturning, this makes no sense as you are, literally, standing in front of a lump of fast spinning wood that could fly off and hit you in the face (not that bad, really). Maybe it is the absorbing concentration required that means all other thoughts disappear; whatever the reason, I love it.
